Your Child’s Baptism

Congratulations! God has blessed you with a child! To prepare for this special day, attend one Baptism class. These are held at the Church on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 PM. Sponsors (at least one sponsor needs to be Catholic) and babies are invited. This session is designed to enrich our understanding of the sacrament, answer questions about the celebration and provide varied opportunities to create a meaningful experience for everyone who will attend.

For the baptism of adults, please see “Becoming Catholic” under Religious Formation.*

NOTE: Those who approach our Faith Community seeking to celebrate its communal Sacraments (for example: Baptism, First Eucharist, First Reconciliation, Confirmation and Matrimony) but who do not regularly worship with, or celebrate with the Faith Community, will in every case be asked to visit with the Pastor or the Pastoral Team. In some cases, in keeping with universal Church law, they may encounter a delay or postponement.

The following sessions and celebrations are designed to supplement learning that takes place in the classroom and to give families the opportunity to celebrate this special time both at home and at church.

First Reconciliation

Family Session: (Required of each candidate and at least one parent) Choose one of these two options:

Friday, November 5th, 7:00 p.m. OR Saturday, November 6th, 9:00 a.m.

Choose the time that works best for you and your family.  Dates, curriculum and requirements for the reception of the Sacraments will be shared at one of these two gatherings. If you are unable to attend either potluck session, HOME SESSIONS are available.

Celebration of First Reconciliation: To be scheduled at the Family Session in November. Group sizes are limited. Please schedule early.

First Eucharist

Celebration of First Eucharist: To be scheduled at the Family Session in November. Schedules may be changed at a later date if needed.

Teens in both the 8th grade religious formation program and parish school prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation. This Sacrament completes the process of Initiation into the Catholic Faith tradition, and begins an exciting new phase in the lifelong faith journey of our young people.

Sacrament preparation sessions will be held on either Friday, November 5 at 7 pm or Saturday, November 6 at 9 am. Enjoy light refreshments in the foyer following our preparations.

We need your presence to make the gathering beneficial to all. Choose the time that works best for you and your family.  Dates, curriculum and requirements for the reception of the Sacrament will be shared at one of these two gatherings.

Calendars and specific project descriptions will be available at the sessions.

The call or vocation of Matrimony should never be taken lightly or by the immature. Archdiocesan regulations require couples to contact the Pastor at least six months prior to the proposed wedding date.

After an initial interview with the Pastor, the couple will be involved in the pre-marriage process. This is a multi-leveled process of preparation, involving both parish and Archdiocesan requirements. This process will be explained in the introductory session.  In addition, a Wedding Coordinator will be assigned to the couple, to assist them with every aspect of their wedding environment. Likewise, the couple will meet with our Music Director to select the music according to Archdiocesan guidelines.

The couple may also be involved in Parish Sessions offered several times during the year, with a focus on Marriage as a Sacrament.

This sacrament gives comfort and healing to those seriously ill or near death.  Sacrament of the Sick, formerly called Extreme Unction (“Last Blessing”), is given on request at your home or in the hospital.  The Sacrament is also administered here at Good Shepherd at all the Masses twice a year.

The mission of the Good Shepherd Vocation Committee is to create awareness and encourage all vocations—single, married, ordained, and religious—with special emphasis on encouraging vocations to the priesthood/diaconate/religious life in our Parish, to support current vocations and to promote prayer for vocations.  For more information, contact Jon Schnieders at (913) 438 – 2017.
